Publication of future professional standards for Physician Associate and Anaesthesia Associates
In 2019 the UK Government asked the General Medical Council (GMC) to regulate Physician Associates (PAs) and Anaesthesia Associates (AAs). The GMC has nowfor these professions which will take effect after regulation begins and a professional registers with the GMC.
It has been developed with input from the Faculty of Physician Associates, Royal College of Physicians, Association of Anaesthesia Associates, Royal College of Anaesthetists, as well as individual PAs, AAs, students and doctors.
The guidance will give PAs, AAs, and students time to familiarise themselves with the new requirements. It will also help the public, employers and other members of the healthcare team to better understand these important roles and the contribution that PAs and AAs make to patient care across the UK.
