Portugal Agreement

The Portugal Agreement was our second voluntary programme for healthcare regulators in Europe. It was developed at our 2007 Autumn Meeting, held in Lisbon.

It set out a range of actions cooperation and development of healthcare regulation in Europe, and it built upon the implementation of the Edinburgh Agreement.

More than 60 delegates, from 20 European countries, used the programme to build further collaboration in Europe.

The agreement focuses on information exchange in the context of free movement of people in Europe.

Key elements of the Portugal Agreement

The three strands of activity contained in the Portugal Agreement are:

  • shared principles of regulation
  • transparent and accessible healthcare regulation
  • competence assurance of European healthcare professionals.
